A waterway, Venice

This stunning piece is based on an image from Venice when I was there in March, 2025. My objective in this piece was to create the feeling inspired by the magical, beautiful place that is Venice, the ancient city floating on the lagoon. I would love to revisit the city and paint en plain air.

I was lost in her warren of ancient laneways - not for the first time - when I found this gorgeous view of one of many canals that snake their way through Venice. I knew the scene would make for a beautiful painting. Venice is the most beautiful place in the world. It was heartbreaking to leave her, I am counting the days until I return. I sought to capture some of the beauty of this magnificent city with my painting, although it seems like an impossible task.
