About my art

My practice engages with themes of modern urban life, searching for beauty in the everyday. I make classically-rendered paintings layering oil paint in a realistic style, however more recent work is shifting to include dream-like, otherworldly narratives.

I have undertaken multiple solo exhibitions, shown in group shows and created unique, one of a kind pieces by commission.

I paint from lived experiences, memory and inspiration. I make every piece by hand, stretching my own canvas/linen, and I only use professional artist's grade materials. I labour tirelessly to create art that will endure for many years to come. I am interested in longevity, beauty and fine art. I am a realist painter, although more recent work is beginning to incorporate more imagery from imagination and dreams. I believe everyone has an equal right to self-expression, and art isn't a competition or a "flex" or something to get good at. I am also immediately suspicious of art with a description that stretches credulity too far, i.e. the object hanging "awkwardly" in a gallery space. Art is truth. It shouldn't need an elegantly worded epistle to be gripping, shocking, stunning or emotionally impactful. It is humanity's strongest voice, as natural to us as birdsong is to the birds. I aspire to make the most beautiful work possible, the rest follows.

I love urban and natural landscape painting, and I am a classically trained oil painter with experience painting portraits, still-life, figurative and abstract. Browse the Portfolio page for a selection of recent work.
